Dry needling is one of the most effective adjunct treatments we offer, and since incorporating it into our practice in 2018, we've seen it make a meaningful difference for a wide range of patients and conditions.

The technique involves the insertion of thin, solid filament needles — similar to acupuncture needles — into specific areas of muscle tissue, commonly referred to as trigger points or myofascial knots. When a needle contacts a trigger point, it often produces a brief involuntary muscle twitch, which is a positive sign that the tissue is responding. This response helps release muscle tension, improve circulation to the area, reduce local and referred pain, and restore more normal movement patterns. The effect is often noticeable within two to three sessions.

Dry needling is particularly effective for musculoskeletal pain conditions — things like neck and shoulder tightness, low back pain, headaches stemming from muscle tension, hip and glute dysfunction, plantar fasciitis, and overuse injuries in athletes. It can also be a valuable tool in post-operative recovery when certain muscles are inhibited or slow to engage following surgery.

It's important to be honest about what dry needling is and isn't. It is not a cure-all, and it is most effective when used as part of a broader treatment plan rather than in isolation. When applied to the right conditions and integrated thoughtfully with exercise, manual therapy, and patient education, it can significantly accelerate recovery and reduce the number of visits required to reach your goals.

Not every condition is a good candidate for dry needling, and a thorough evaluation helps us determine whether it's the right tool for you. If you're curious whether dry needling could be part of your recovery, book an evaluation and we'll give you a straight answer.
